Shisa are EVERYWHERE in Okinawa! They are lion dogs and are put in doorways, on streets, in front of buildings and houses, and anywhere else you might look. Traditionally, one shisa has it's mouth open to keep out bad spirits and the other has it's mouth closed to keep good spirits in. Shisa come in all different colors and sizes, and some even look happy though originally they looked quite fierce! They are my favorite souvenirs so far!
