The Okinawans

The people of Okinawa use the Japanese language and the island belongs to Japan but they are probably closer related to the Chinese. They don't call themselves Japanese or Chinese though, they call themselves Okinawan. They have their own culture similar to but not the same as the Japanese. Okinawa actually belonged to the U.S. for years after WWII. Driving was on the right side and they built a ton of military bases on the island. When the island went back to Japan driving was switched to the left side but there are still a lot of bases here. One of the biggest is Kadena. This is where my dad works.
